Commercial & industrial (C&I) customers consume significant amounts of energy and often represent the largest electricity consumer group in a country. With their high energy demands and self or end-customer driven net zero commitments, they have a growing appetite for renewable energy generated onsite and sourced remotely through the grid where permitted by open access policies and electricity markets. Onsite generation typically takes the form of photovoltaic panels mounted on rooftops, called rooftop solar (RTS). Remote sourcing typically occurs through power purchase agreements with utility scale ground mounted solar and onshore wind projects.
